This was an extremely
interesting article on the push for 3rd year interns at a British Hospital to study and learn
independently without the help of a tutor or mentor. The primary reason for this decision was
based on the fact that acquiring tutors takes time and money. The interesting part to me was the conclusion
that the study found no significant difference in learning between
self-directed community study and study with a tutor. Students were furnished with a structured
study pack to help them learn on their own in the study.
